Fitness for Floridians - Two New, Statewide Commitments
With two recent events, fitness and healthy lifestyle choices have become a statewide priority and underscore the need for programs and messages such as those offered by America on the Move in Florida.
Governor Crist recently appointed a 20-member Council on Physical Fitness to develop by October a state plan of action to promote physical fitness and proper nutrition for all Floridians, and the Florida House and Senate passed legislation that mandates 150 minutes of physical education per week for all public school students grades K-5.
"It is absolutely critical that we find ways to help children adopt healthy habits they can carry into adulthood," said Governor Crist. "Physical activity is a central component of a healthy, meaningful and productive life."
